The artifacts, classroom map, demonstrates how an learning environment can be set up to enhance the learning of students while providing the environment where students can socially interact with one another. By looking on how I would set up my classroom you are able to see how I encourage group group as well as individual work in a classroom. The second part of this project is explaining my teaching philosophy over my selection of materials in my classroom. My teaching philosophy as well as my classroom map explains how I lean towards more to an progressivism approach by providing students the environment where they can cooperatively learn, and be independent. Providing dual desks allows students to always have one of their classmates sitting next to them making it easier to work together and ask themselves questions anytime they wish. The kidney table in my classroom also shows shows a place in the classroom where students and the teacher can come together and read. This table allows the teacher to socialize with 4 to 5 students at a time and interact with them one at time to assist them on any reading dificulty they might have. Coming together as a class and helping eachother out only encourages students to see how by helping eachother out and working with one another they are able to learn as effectively as if they being taught just by the teacher. The classroom shows how studnets are able to work in centers where they are encouraged to work with their partner if they like or work individually. Finding a balance in the classroom where students are able to have the time to work indepently and work together allows students to be flexible in their learning. Not only does the classroom show my progressivist approach, but also my essentialist approach. It's important that you encourage cooperative learning in the classroom but at the same time emphasizing and teaching the basics of learning so each child can build that foundation needed for their further learning.
Project
The artifact, classroom map, represents my approach to teaching as well as my philosophy. The setting of classroom explains my perspective of how I would want develop a learning environment to my students. The reasoning of the placement of furniture and the selection of materials I chose to have in my classroom represents how I as a students have developed a teaching approach and a philosophy as a teacher. As a student I have learned that incorporating group work into a classroom enables students to socially interact to one another and hear their peers opinions as well as allowing them work together to accomplish a task allows students to understand more and see other points of views that you might not have known before. The artifact demonstrates how students will interact and promote the learner to be self motivated as they work individually or as a member in group.
This artifact also allowed me to reflect on my approach to teaching as well how I would want the environment in my classroom to be int he future. My classroom map is an example of how I would like my classroom set up to be. I hope to provide the approriate environment to fit the needs of the students as well as incorporating interaction among peers that will encourage them to be self motivated and eager to learn.
